In a service based business like ours the team is everything. Sure you need good systems, high standards and a strong customer focus, but without without skilled people who know what they're doing and are happy to help each other to do it there's nothing to distinguish your team from all the others out there who do the same thing.
That's why our philosophy is to recruit, train and continually invest in the right people who have positive customer service focused attitudes. We believe in growing people to be the best they can be.
Sprinkler Service Manager
Selwyn has been with First Fire for 8 years and enjoys being part of a close-knit team in a growing company. Originally from South Africa he has 20 years experience in sprinkler systems. He enjoys using that expertise to solve problems quickly and efficiently and he believes that customers really value that.
After hours Selwyn likes to paddleboard, and if it’s the middle of winter he’ll just don a wetsuit.
Mark has a well-earned reputation for being meticulous about getting the right people on the bus and then looking after them. This approach didn’t happen by accident, it’s been honed from years of working in hospitality, business broking and real estate – all of them customer service focussed. Since taking over the business 8 years ago it has doubled in size - confirming that it’s a winning formula.
When not in the corner office you’ll find Mark in gumboots on his deer farm in the Waikato.
Personal Assistant/Administration Team Leader
Attention to detail, being organised and taking the small stuff off Mark’s shoulders are Carol’s forte’s. She likes being part of a close knit team, the strong customer focussed ethic, and being able to get things done quickly, which often isn’t possible in a larger company.
After hours Carol likes to engage in some surfing or fishing, and spending time with friends and family.
Mark has been in the fire protection industry for 37 years, 17 of those in the fire service – which explains his strong focus on safety and the prevention of life threatening situations when a fire breaks out. He thinks the key difference in a service business is having skilled people with the right attitude and he believes that in his team he has some of the best in the industry.
To balance out his worktime Mark is painstakingly restoring a 1972 Triumph Stag, and he is also a passionate follower of The Warriors.

Having originally trained as a builder Alex is well versed in what it takes to manage complex installations on time and within budget. He believes strongly in the importance of attention to detail and getting things right the first time. He
actually relishes grappling with the inevitable problems that come up and insists that his team call him instantly if something goes wrong so it can be sorted quickly.
His favourite pastime is motorcross riding and admits he’s learned the hard way that sometimes the human body isn’t actually bulletproof.
Ameet relishes the role of taking primary responsibility for managing the team of service technicians. With 10 years in the industry and 8 of those with First Fire there are few customer problems he can't solve. He likes the variety his role offers and the challenges of staying ahead of rapidly changing technology in a fast moving industry.
A dedicated family man he likes to travel but admits he has had little opportunity lately. In spite of that he still manages to squeeze in the odd game of social soccer.
Having recently joined the company Mohammed has found that what he likes about it is being part of a small close-knit team. After 10 years in the industry working for much larger companies he enjoys the freedom to make decisions and solve problems without the frustrations and delays of a long chain of command. He knows that customers like the personal touch and feels that good communication is the key.
He likes fishing and football and has been a Manchester United fan since he was 9 years old.
Sprinkler Projects Manager
Gareth has worked on some pretty large scale projects in the UK and more recently in NZ, so he is well versed in the exacting demands and disciplines of project management . With 11 years in the industry coupled with a fastidious approach he appreciates the advantages of working with a smaller organisation. As he puts it - the straightforward management structure at First Fire provides "the freedom to do it right".
Gareth has a young family and for the time being has swapped playing active social soccer for being an active armchair supporter of Manchester United.
